In the last few days, Ive heard from a couple of relatives who have, or know of friends who have, come down with a case of Hillary Anxiety. Having covered Clintons 2000 Senate race closely and spoken at the time with many New York women among whom the malady was first diagnosed, I know the symptoms well.
They like her, generally speaking, and admire her (I should note that Hillary Anxiety is not limited to women by any means, although it is perhaps more sharply felt by them than by men). They want to see her succeed. They yearn for her to slay the beasts of sexism and gender-role definitions that she has taken it upon herself to battle. Hillary Anxiety, in these respects, is very different from Hillary Distrust or Contempt, which is the more commonly found inflammation among journalists and others inside the Beltway. The Hillary-Anxious are basically on her side.
But those symptoms: theyre queasy, these folks. The years of charges (valid or not) about corruption, the endless debates about how polarizing she is it leaves some people feeling exhausted. Before the race has even started, really! Oh, Lord. I like Hillary and want her to be president, but am I really ready to slog through all this crap again?,,,,

Taking a hard line against crime - which put a generation of black men in prison - instead of addressing the causing.
Triangulation to a phony "center" invented by Wall Street
Sound familiar? Reagan took the GOP "left" - i.e. toward the "center" in some ways.
The Clintons are part of The Reagan Revolution.
That's why I'm dreading Hilary being the nominee even though I'd like to vote for a female President.

(3,732 posts)and I have a feeling that's where it's going to go because Hilary soaked up too many of the resources too early on, more or less intimidating anyone else from even trying. I have a feeling Bernie finally stepped up just because no one else was in a position to make a challenge.
While all the Hillary supporters are crying "what about the Supremes???" now - it won't make a difference if Hillary can't win the general election. I doubt she can.

(13,218 posts)Which lead to nothing. Many (Republicans in particular) have flaunted the laws right in our faces and no charges have happened. I say the more slanders are slung at the Clintons and found empty the more we can trust that there are none of any merit. You should be feeling surer and stronger not exhausted.

(32,864 posts)Of their policy is frighteningly similar. The press spreading lies and bullshit about her makes me support her more not less.
Clinton is not my first choice but I will definitely vote for the Democratic nominee whomever that turns out to be.
Maybe we should finally make the press understand that their lies and bullshit will have zero effect on our support for her or any candidate for that matter. They are a large part of the problem.
