many DUers are online. We just went to Omaha via Seattle and Salt Lake City.
What are those huge round things and barren areas? Are they really salt?

(5,704 posts)the whole area was so barren, no greenery. And some areas where so white, guess it is different viewing it when in a plane!
I remember you from the animal you inherited, LOL.

(5,704 posts)I then wondered if Omaha-Steve lived there but never thought of contacting him. We were on a very tight schedule to get to Omaha and back to BC within 2-1/2 days.

(80,708 posts)basically you have this big-ass thing that irrigates in a circle, hence, the circles.

(5,704 posts)From looking down on a plane it is so different! Some were square shaped especially over Salt Lake City!

(90,704 posts)The giant circles are from center-pivot irrigation systems in a desert environment. That's why the edges are so stark and unnatural.
I always took the squares to be plots for future non-agricultural development, and/or parking lots for already-existing schools, plants, and businesses, as I usually could see buildings of some sort along one or two edges of the square.
Bet you're glad to be back where water just falls from the sky!
