https://homes.yahoo.com/blogs/spaces/florida--versailles---nation-s-largest-home--is-back-from-the-brink-185715511.htmlDavid Siegel ("They call me the time-share king" and his wife, Jackie Siegel titular star of the 2012 documentary "The Queen of Versailles" began building their dream home near Disney World about a decade ago. Soon it became evident that the sheer size of the mansion was almost unprecedented in America; it's thought that only Biltmore House and Oheka Castle are bigger and still standing, and both of those are now run as tourist attractions, not true single-family homes.
But when the bottom fell out of the financial markets in 2008, their fortunes were upended too. By the time the documentary ended, their dream home had gone into default and they'd put it on the market. The listing asked for $100 million finished "based on the royal palace of Louix XIV of the 17th century or to the buyer's specifications or $75 million "as is with all exterior finishings in crates in the 20-car garage on site."...
That's just as well: David Siegel's time-share empire, Westgate, regained its footing and in fact has been doing better than ever, he told the Orlando Business Journal in February: "Once the recession was over, business was booming again in 2012, we had our all-time best year in history, and in 2013 we beat that by 30 percent and 2014 beat that previous year by 25 percent. And so far, we're already ahead again this year compared to last year."
Versailles, eh? Makes me think of the French Revolution!

(2,925 posts)Florida's homeless should make their way there and take up residence, they probably would
not be discovered for quite sometime.
A while back a friend of mine moved into a fairly large house, probably about 5,000 square feet, and I had a running joke with another friend that I would just move in and it would be months before they'd figure it out.

(16,846 posts)that big gauche whorehouse that Rush Limbaugh lives in. I saw a picture of his bedroom once, and it was unbelievably tacky. That's what rich people do with their money when they aren't paying enough taxes.

Much as I love me some FL water front property, no way in hell would I buy in FL (or anywhere at or within 10' of sea level).

(78,249 posts)I dont want you and anyone else living in Orlando (including my family when we visit Disney) to be swimming our way from place to place in the next decades.
At worst, we'll have beachfront property. Also, that house is obscene, a testament to obscene wealth.

(28,979 posts)I bet their neighbors hate them. They will suck every last drop of fresh water out of the area. Probably even rip all the natural vegetation out. They deserve to live in such a mausoleum. Tackiest couple on earth. Made their fortune in timeshares. Bottom feeders. Whiners. There's a video about them on Netflix.
Here's the trailer:

(41,692 posts)In the lead-up to the 2012 presidential election, David Siegel, billionaire chief of Florida timeshare company Westgate Resorts, sent an email to all employees. Of course, as your employer, I cant tell you whom to vote for, Siegel wrote, but offered a few facts that might help you decide what is in your best interest. These included that re-electing Obama would threaten your job and result in less benefits and certainly less opportunity for everyone.
Just over two years after penning that company-wide email, Siegel informed Westgate employees that instead of layoffs, he would boost their minimum wage to $10 per hour beginning in 2015.
In fact, according to Siegel, 2014 was a banner year. Were experiencing the best year in our history and I wanted to do something to show my gratitude for the employees who make that possible, Siegel said in announcing the wage hike. He also recently told the Orlando Business Journal that things have never been better.
