Woman in wheelchair wins a treadmill on 'The Price is Right'

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/05/us/wheelchair-woman-treadmill-price-is-right/index.html

(CNN)Any "Price is Right" fan has probably dreamed of one day going on the show and being summoned to "Come on down!" while simultaneously fearing the worst-case scenario of never making it on stage to meet Drew Carey, or going over on the showcase showdown.

Or worse: not spinning the wheel hard enough to make a complete rotation.

Danielle Perez's trip to "The Price is Right" looked like the dream scenario in an episode that aired Tuesday. She made it on stage and met Drew Carey. She even won her pricing game, sending her home with a wooden cabinet and a treadmill.

Which would've been great, except that Perez has no legs and she uses a wheelchair.

Perez's cringe-worthy win was quickly posted on YouTube and garnered plenty of reaction on social media.

One would hope that they have contingencies for this kind of situation, but I guess not.

"One treadmill. Like new. Never used."

Props to the show for being accessible enough to get her up there!

I didn't read the article, and have no real knowledge on this subject, but I would think that the prizes and games are decided before an episode begins.
Plus, the show can't know who will win a bid and get on stage.

I hope the Show offers this contestant a different prize.

It wasn't a wooden cabinet, it was a sauna.
As for the treadmill, she could either sell it or perhaps she has friends or relatives who could use it.

i'm sure there are plenty of people who have won cars who either couldn't drive or simply had no use for (another) car.

don't know if vacations prizes are transferable, but there are certainly plenty of people who don't like to travel, or don't like planes or cruises, etc.

yes, there's an obvious problem with this particular prize, but it's only the obviousness of it that makes it different.

everyone has, at some point, received a gift they can't use or don't want. game show prizes are not much different in that regard.

All that crap is an AD for the products, in essence. The crap manufacturers give samples to the game show in exchange for the whole "Say My Name" routine.

Good thing she has a sense of humor (she's a comedian). It's unlikely she wants to learn to do this:

that which enables that would also enable cheating. Contestants are unknown until called, prizes are set in advance.
One assumes the show would offer cash or a substitute prize if that's allowed in their rules.

I remember when Aunt Bea won all those prizes on a game show and all of her friends in Mayberry were so jealous. Then the bill came in for the taxes, and Andy had to tell her that she couldn't afford to keep her prizes. At least she got her friends back.

I've called into a radio show for a contest with a whole long list of prizes, one of which being a motorcycle.

I have no interest whatsoever in ever riding a motorcycle, but I'd gladly take it and sell it.

People will buy the useless boat, or motorcycle you just won, so maybe someone offered to buy this from her.

The prizes in a segment are predetermined.

There is no possible way they could tailor a prize to suit the contestant.

Or should they.

I'm fairly certain she is a strong adult and does not need your coddling.

She'd probably even be appalled by it.

i'm sure many people win prizes they personally could not use.

i would be happy with any of these prizes because i could at least sell it and get some money.
