The Democratic Party needs to start using the C-word at every opportunity.

And by that I mean "Compassion".

Remember back when that was a Republican talking point? Back in 2000 when Bush-dimson was a Compassionate Conservative?

Well they dropped the Compassion part, not that it was ever anything other than a thin veneer of bullshit anyway. And now they are the party of Mean. Vile Mean.

We need to take advantage of that. Embrace Compassion. Everywhere.

Compassion for the poor, the foreclosed, the unemployed devastated by the greed and avarice of the last 30 years.
Compassion for immigrants.
Compassion for students saddled with horrendous debt.
Compassion for gay and lesbian couples denied equality.
The list goes on...

Compassion is what distinguishes our view from theirs, and what will reach, on an emotional level, the independent voters who will decide this election.

Make the C-word your word. Use it.

The difference between us and them is that we feel compassion or empathy even for people we do not know. They only feel it for people they actually know. That has been my experience with my family anyway.

their false coopting of Christianity has given Republicans an advantage among some groups who don't pay close attention to the details of what the different parties and candidates actually do and are thus vulnerable to the lies spread by the Republcian propaganda machine.

Therefore, if I were in a position to be listened to, I would advise the Democrats to remind people loudly and constantly of the values that Jesus actually espoused and of the fact that he was executed by an authoritarian state for daring to challenge authority and advocate for the poor, the disadvantaged, and the discriminated against--and especially for "the little children," who are among the vulnerable people most harmed by Republican policies!

I wouldn't want the Dems to do this in a way that implied--as the Republicans do--that Christianity is the one true religion, but rather in a way that simply points out that the Republicans, despite their claiming of the Christian name, actually endorse and enact policies that are antithetical to everything that Jesus supported and asked his followers to support.

Christianity (and of all religions) without invoking any of them explicitly.

"We have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. “Necessitous men are not free men.”[3] People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.

In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

*The right of every family to a decent home;

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

*The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America's own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for all our citizens." FDR, Democratic President, 1944

At one time, not so long ago,
when you voted FOR The Democrats,
you voted FOR the above values.
Sadly, this is no longer true.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.
