Bushes/China: 4 decades of dealings, flying under the media radar.

I submit that NO ONE really knows the worth of the Bush Family or knows the extent of their business connections in China, because their earliest dealings in the 70s were covert and under the table, undocumented by any media organization. And those dealings led the way for US manufacturing base to move to China and other low-wage countries in the 80s and 90s.

May/2004:

>>>>>
US companies also still see the Bushes as Middle Kingdom rainmakers. In December, Bush Jr invited a business group founded by Prescott to send 50 members to a reception on the White House lawn for visiting Premier Wen Jiabao. And a group of bankers and financiers travelled from the US with Bush Sr last month to an environmental protection conference in Shanghai that featured top officials from the standing committee of the National People's Congress and other government bodies, according to the Shanghai Star.

It all makes for a lucrative niche. There are no publicly disclosed figures on how much the family has made overall in the last three decades as China brokers. But the deals continue to add up.

Prescott Bush Jr:
Prescott Bush only made his first visit to China after his brother Bush Sr had moved into the White House as vice president in 1981. He quickly became a regular, leaving behind his 33-year career in the insurance brokerage business in preference for Chinese deal making. A 30 percent stake in one early project, an $18 million golf club in Shanghai, gave Prescott the opportunity to strike up a friendship with then-mayor Jiang Zemin (who now heads the communist party's powerful standing committee of Central Military Commission).

Now 81, Prescott Bush still travels to China two to four times a year, according to the website of Plus Holdings, a Hong Kong-listed company focused on China, which hired Prescott as a special adviser three months after Bush Jr's inauguration. The website features Prescott's picture at the top of its home page. "He has many friends in China," the site says in its biography of the special Bush family adviser.

Prescott Bush Resources, his consulting company, has put together more than 30 joint ventures in China since 1978, according to the website of Global Access, a US consulting company active in China, which retains Prescott as chairman of its advisory board. "Mr [Prescott] Bush has also facilitated meetings and approvals at the highest levels of the Chinese government," the site adds in its biography.
...
Prescott capitalized explicitly on the family tie-in by forming the US-China Chamber of Commerce in 1993 after serving on its predecessor, the Hong Kong-US Business Council, during his brother's presidency.

"My brother, George, has been instrumental in the development of US and China relations since 1974," he wrote in his letter to prospective members. The chamber pitches itself as a networking hub, which "provides the business communities in both countries with direct access to leading business people and government officials who are important in their business development efforts".

through the decades has simply gone silent on this story. Remember a friend of ours that traveled to China in 1968. It was very common for many well to do Americans to go to China and bring bribe goods as baggage. Our friend and his spouse usually took cases of three pound cans of coffee, this would allow them almost total access to anywhere in and around the Main Land areas. Remember this couple using a Real Estate contact tied to a Bush family firm as their travel arranger. How soon we forget about small little tidbits of info that later mean huge stories. The Bush Family is a huge Empire and has holdings all around the Globe.

I think Democrats do this nation and our party a huge disservice when they ignore all the years of US-China dealings by Bushes and their fascist cronies, in order to buy into the accepted theory that it all began with Clinton's trade deals. Those trade deals in the late 90s were only providing thin formality for what had become an accepted, mainstream business practice for US corporations in the 80s.

DU should never let Bushes off the hook. They and their cronies have near-total control of mainstream, broadcast media - there is no dearth of stories that pin all blame for China dealings on Clinton. You see it every day here on DU. And I am no fan of Clintons by any measure. BUT….How much information has been given to the public about the Bushes' decades of private dealings in China?

and their pandering to the Monied Class,we now see the end results. When Nixon opened China, anyone whom studied History or had any understanding as to World Events, could see this coming. This was just act 2 of the same play following WWll,and the rebuild of Japan. Same Wealthy Families securing future wealth for future generations.

Yes,the Democratic Party has been in bed with these crooks. It's called fee fir service or kick backs, just don't say anything okay.

order were also his (and rayguns) ideas. I still do not let Bill Clinton totally off the hook. He was smart enough to know better but he still played ball with the Rs. His years would have been the time to stop this mess we are in now. To turn away from trickle down theory and reinstate the Keynesian rules.

It was something bartcop saw and understood, too, but he was more forgiving of Clinton than me.

Would you trade to BECOME president of the US, something you always wanted? Would you continue along some path as desired by some, for the opportunity to hold enough power of office to do SOME good and possibly effect some positive change in the world?

Poppy Bush knew if he stayed in office another term he was facing CERTAIN impeachment for BCCI.

What would you do?

I want to claim that I know I would only do the right thing….but, then…I never wanted to BE president.

Which is why Pelosi lost my interest in her the minute she said "impeachment is off the table"
and Obama refused to " look backwards" on any war crimes and other Bush illegalities.

Been pushing the Bush/Moon alliance since my earliest posts at DU.

blm is bushluvsmoonies from MWO and bartcop.

I am posting about Bushes and China because some here have missed a few decades of BFEE history in order to push the claim that US manufacturing was moving to China only because trade deals by Clinton in the mid90s allowed it to happen. That narrative is pretty odd to those of us on DU who have been posting about BFEE's dealings in the decades that proceeded Clinton's presidency.

Heck, even during the Romney cycle here, it was exposed that Bain's consultant arm was openly ADVISING their US clients to move their factories to China and other low-wage countries in the 80s (thank you BFEE).

I don't get the posters here who want to spread the narrative that Clinton started the ball rolling - and I never let Clinton off the hook for anything that I know he DID do. This just isn't one of them. Context is EVERYTHING.

and their long-range machinations.

To the media Poppy Bush is such a benign creature…..harmless, really. Such a NICE man. Always remembers to write them notes. He perfected that 'gentleman' mask to keep them duped.

Ever wonder what happened to our standard of living? You, know, the Middle Class?

Well, it's been off-shored -- both in terms of money to Switzerland and manufacturing jobs to China.

Of course, I mean, don't worry! -- at a profit.

Guess who made a killing? If you said, "The ruling elite" you'd be correct.

What may be surprising to some is how the "ruling elite" crosses political, ideological, and philosophical lines when it comes to money. Case in point: China.

Currently, the people of China are largely unaware at how their ruling Communist elite got rich while the people slaved their asses off.

Here in the good old U.S. of A., the people are largely unaware that their ruling Capitalist elite got rich setting the policies that offshored their money and jobs.

Oh, well. Live and learn.
