Today reminds me of a conversation I had with my 10-year-old son

He asked me about all this gay marriage stuff.

I explained that, while most men want to marry women and most women want to marry men, not everyone is that way. I explained that there are some men who want to marry other men and some women who want to marry other women. I then pointed out some people he knows who are gay.

My son mentioned one person in particular who lives with his partner. He asked if that guy and his boyfriend were getting married. I said: "Well, no they won't be getting married because that's illegal where they live."

At that my 10-year-old thought for a few second then looked at me and asked: "Illegal? Why is that illegal?"

I explained that there is no good answer to that question -- and why.

big deal. Then I told her it was because no other president had ever said anything like that and she was shocked.

ETA: Shocked that no president had ever said that. For her, it's a given: Marriage equality is the right thing to do.
