I mean always. No matter how horrific the crime, I am against the death penalty.
I read a comment on Facebook about how it was inhumane to put that young man in prison....he would suffer horrors.
I want him to suffer some. I want him to sit in a tiny cell for a long time and have to THINK about what he did.
Outside of the moral or ethical discussion, it is illogical. Killing someone is wrong....so we kill someone for doing it...it does not make sense.
Sure, the thought crosses my mind that someone should die for what they did, but that is revenge and it should not be something a country or a person should do.

It's much easier for me to just oppose the death penalty and inhumane treatment, period. The suffering of someone does not change what they did, and in many cases, prevents even the possibility of rehabilitation--which is what the whole point of prison should be about anyways.

(6,929 posts)Life without parole does not strike me as an option for rehabilitation. There are many many people who should get rehabilitation....I do not believe that this applies to him. Unfortunately, I am afraid that many people in this country come out of prison as way worse than they entered. Our prison system is a nightmare, but there are people who belong there for life.
We are making him a martyr.....it will probably create more people seeking death for martyrdom...they do not seek life without parole as a martyr.

(3,747 posts)I disagree with it, but I understand where you're coming from.
I think life with possibility of parole after 15-20 years minimum served is a better option. It would have to be after an extensive (read: very extensive) review, of course.
Actually, I just decided I'm going to make an OP on that idea. I'll let you know when I post it, and we can continue the discussion there, maybe?

(68,644 posts)Unlike, say Manson who can write books and paint and express himself to the outdoor world, and even get married, I would end all of that and insist that the person be required to be productive in some way, if only to be tending a garden that produces food to be used in the kitchen.
Health care, of course, and some ways to remain sane (because isolation is cruel and unusual) but none of this being given a voice to the outside world.
And, obviously, the death penalty is simply off the list of things we should be doing, ever, no exceptions.

(1,265 posts)Because it is exclusively a poor person's penalty. Like everything in this country, two systems exist in capital cases, one for the rich and one for everyone else. Until the death penalty is given to a person of means I won't even consider supporting it. Probably wouldn't even then...
