Authorities in Guyana say 18 miners were buried alive in a gold mine in the Konawaruk area Sunday afternoon.
Media reports say the face of the mining pit caved in on 18 miners who were working there.
Seven of the trapped miners were rescued; two are in critical condition and five are being treated at the Madhia Hospital.
The mining operator reportedly had no permission to be on the land.
