Last updated 11:27, May 4 2015
Boeing's 787 Dreamliners may need to be turned off and turned on again to deal with a serious software bug that could cause total loss of power, reports say.
Laboratory testing found the plane's power control units could shut down power generators if they were powered without interruption for 248 days, or about eight months, the US Federal Aviation Administration said on Thursday.
The findings were published in an airworthiness directive.
Boeing said the problem occurred only in lab simulation and no airplane had experienced it, The New York Times reported.

(25,704 posts)All glass cockpit? Great until it turns off. Radio? Bricked too. Controls still worked somehow.
Then the stupid copilot put the code for hijacking instead of no radio. They almost got shot down. Luckily he was an old F 15 pilot and somehow kept his passengers alive.

(16,191 posts)Kind of shocking that something like that could make it through testing. That's usually one of the primary things testers look for in embedded systems programming.
