It looked like Bob Dylan, who performed on last nights penultimate episode, would be the last musical guest on the Late Show with David Letterman. But now, Rolling Stone is reporting that David Lettermans favorite band, the Foo Fighters, will play a song on tonights final episode.
When Letterman returned to his show in 2008 after undergoing quintuple bypass surgery, the musical guest that night was the Foo Fighters. Ladies and gentlemen, my favorite band playing my favorite song, the host said, as the group launched into their 1997 Everlong. Its a good bet that they will reprise that performance tonight.
Weve always shared a special relationship with Letterman, lead singer Dave Grohl told the Orange County Register last fall ahead of a week-long residency on the Late Show. When he had his open-heart surgery, he was gone for a while and when he came back he requested the Foo Fighters be the first band to perform for his first week back because he wanted to hear the song Everlong. Ever since that day, weve been in love. I dont know how many times weve played that show but every time we do and I stand in the Ed Sullivan Theater, I never take that for granted.
Lettermans Worldwide Pants production company also served as a co-producer on the bands widely-praised HBO documentary series Sonic Highways.

(20,588 posts)Dylan has always had odd performances on the show but last night was quite uncomfortable. Foo Fighters will give him a great send off. And I bet they will collaborate on other projects.

I liked Eddie Vedder's performance and I liked that he played with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra.
