I mean it's not like the American people would elect a one term African American Senator whose last name rhymes with "Osama" to be President, either.

I strongly believe that second-guessing who "can win the general" to figure out who to support in the primary, is a fool's errand. I could go on about it at length, but the condensed version is, we did that in 2004, and lost. We blew it off in 2008, and won.

Letting McGovern and 1972 dictate how people operate in 2016, some 44 years after the fact, is silly.

People should support who they're inclined to support in the primaries, that's my take. The same enthusiasm and energy which can propel a "dark horse" underdog to victory in the primaries, can also help them win the general.

I also think second-guessing, especially at this point in the game, is pointless, which is why I said his partisanship got in the way of a legitimate point, which is a Jewish candidate will face problems because he is a Jew, much the same as Clinton will face because she is a woman. But, thankfully, we have non-Jews to correct us "stupid Jews" and explain how and why we should support Sanders...he's a Jew!

The term "self hating" comes to mind.

I think the real fear/threat is that Sanders will come to debate, and it won't be pretty. He's got an impeccable record. The others not so much. Im not actually sure I have seen anyone attack his record, it's all character assassination.

personal stories often do more to get more people aware of others than positions on various issues. so the bio is actually a good thing to talk about at this point.

We could use a 3 or 4 minute "get to know you" video that introduces him, including his family background and his early days in activism and politics.

I really pay a lot of attention to Bernie Sanders but still don't know much about his early upbringing. Just a few things but would like to hear more.

The reason why no one is talking about the possibility of our first Jewish president is because there isn't a Jewish candidate right now that has a shot at becoming it.

Next, you'll tell me he's a Socialist with unkempt hair.

I suppose Bernie's religious affiliation WOULD be big news if the the corporate media presented him as a viable candidate.

All I can say is, I think he'd make the BEST POTUS among all the announced candidates. He's got MY vote.

The negatives are partly reflected when we read about people complaining about his manner of speaking, I think.

I would love a Jewish POTUS but I am going with the candidate who I think is most viable in the geneal election. Having the first female POTUS is still a milestone

BTW, I know that Romney had depressed turnout in the South due to his religion. Southern Baptists and others do not consider LDS to be christians and this hurt Romney. I fear that the south is not ready for a Jewish candidate

There are somewhere around 60-80 folks currently registered to run for the Democratic primary including our old friend Lee Mercer. No doubt Lee is not the only African American who is running and Bernie is probably not the only Jewish person and Hillary is not the only woman.

It becomes interesting when a minority not previously nominated or elected has an actual chance.
