(268,998 posts)There is video that will create serious problems for these cops.

(34,648 posts)I keep my devices charged up before I leave the house and always take my ipad mini. Just in case I need to pull over and film a cop beating somebody. It seems to me that, many people have th same idea in their heads, and stay ready to film just in case.
Nothing would have been done if not for the video, I swear.

You seem like a really strong woman. I'm proud of you for having the courage of your convictions. You live in a world that's inherently more dangerous than mine, based solely on the color of your skin. I know I'm afraid of cops. You seem fearless.
Please be safe.

bravenak
(34,648 posts)It seems that the charges are going forward despite the naysayers. I think they altered some charges, but the result is the same. I predict convictions for all of those officers. Maybe not on all charges, but they will see the insides of jail cells and get to ride in jail vans or buses.

(34,648 posts)I notice the false imprisonment is gone, but I think that's to get the focus back on to the actions of the cops that caused Freddies death. I'm perfectly satisfied with the charges.
countryjake
(8,554 posts)might be sufficient when it comes to a false imprisonment. Three of those cops were obviously aware that they had no legitimate reason for attacking Mr. Gray in the first place.

(17,598 posts)It does.

We'll have to wait and see if our "Justice" System actually will hold them accountable for their actions...innocent til proven guilty and all that.

for those imbeciles who are saying that if Freddie was white no one would remember - if Freddie was white he's still be alive.

(22,165 posts)... unlike in Ferguson , MO .... the prosecutor actually wanted the murderers prosecuted

(5,815 posts)In regards to Lt. Brian Rice. Sorry if it's obvious and I'm just not seeing it.
Is that the fact they had no grounds to detain Gray to begin with re: knife?
Heartening to see this entire inhuman gang being held to account. And that's exactly what they are - a gang, who had no problem clanning together to make other people's lives more miserable with intimidation, physical harm, and ultimately murder.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)The knife was legal so the arrest was not. That's my guess.
Yep, the cops have become an organized crime unit.

Racial profiling by cops has too often resulted in death. It is firmly embedded in the racist history of the USA. Still.
The Civil Rights of Freddie Gray were unmistakably violated.

You are so right, countryjake.
I'm reading a book now called Black Against Empire, about the Black Panthers in the 1960's and 1970's. It mentions hundreds of cases of police killing unarmed black people in city after city all across the country during just that time period.
It's truly mind blowing how much this has gone on throughout our history.
I highly recommend the book to anyone who is interested in that time period. It was the winner of the 2014 American Book Award. Really riveting reading.

(5,815 posts)I figured but didn't want to assume. I appreciate it.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)Freddie Gray is walking down the street. An officer catches his eye and I think stares him down. Gray walks or runs away. No probable cause for detaining him. They find a knife on him. The knife is legal for Gray to be carrying. No crime. At that point, police were obligated to release him, telling him he's free to go. Yes, that's the basis of why the arrest was illegal.
I'm especially heartened that in this one case, for once, the prosecutor's office is not acting in concert with the gang of police. This must take place everywhere. Hundreds and thousands of cases like this one throughout the United States just in the past few years. It must end. Today is a good start.

(45,274 posts)The officers are scheduled to be arraigned July 2, she said.
Gray's death last month after allegedly suffering a devastating injury while in police custody sparked protests and riots in Baltimore.
Earlier this month, Mosby said that charges had been filed against six officers in Gray's death, an unexpected announcement that brought cheers from protesters and words of protest from the police union.
Yes!!
