Oh, wait. The Huckster was referring to Roman Polanski in an anti-lib'rul Hollywood rant, and then bizarrely and unsuccessfully trying to stretch to attack David letterman for a consensual affair with an adult:
"Some things are either right or wrong. It doesn't matter who does them. When Hollywood hero Roman Polanski drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl and then fled the country instead of facing the consequences of his own guilty plea, there should be no defense of him from anyone. What he did was evil and reprehensible. The fact that he is a great director doesn't obscure the fact that he robbed a child of far more than Bernie Madoff stole from his victims.
What has our culture become when people can commit despicable criminal acts and yet get defended and excused because they are celebrities. If David Letterman takes advantage of subordinates who work for him, then it's not funny, it's pathetic and immoral. The audience shouldn't laugh and applaud; they ought to walk out in disgust. And instead of actors and even governments seeking the release of Roman Polanski, they should be screaming for justice."

But when it comes to Reality TV celebrity Josh Duggar molesting multiple kids and his parents covering it up, well, they're Huck's old family friends, and IOKIYAR:
"No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things.

Janet and I love Jim Bob and Michelle and their entire family. They are no more perfect a family than any family, but their Christian witness is not marred in our eyes because following Christ is not a declaration of our perfection, but of HIS perfection. It is precisely because we are all sinners that we need His grace and His forgiveness. We have been blessed to receive Gods love and we would do no less than to extend our love and support for our friends. In fact, it is such times as this, when real friends show up and stand up. Today, Janet and I want to show up and stand up for our friends. Let others run from them. We will run to them with our support."

(65,616 posts)OF COURSE they support the parents that covered up domestic abuse by their oldest son...no doubt Suckabee thinks God is A-OKAY with it...as long as the offense done was by someone with a penis.

Imaginary, supernatural forgiveness is the cure-all for "evil"; blame it on "satan", yeah, that's the ticket!
That this man is a prominent politician is truly frightening.

(2,419 posts)Josh would have visited on the world if the Duggars were as bad at parenting as the Obamas! See, when conservative evangelicals make mistakes, God loves them. Liberals on the other hand...... I know I shouldn't let something like this bother me because Huckabee is as dumb as a stump, but the hypocrisy is breathtaking. Just the thought of this guy criticizing the Obamas for bringing up smart well adjusted children and then defending the parenting skills of the Duggars is quite enraging.
Here, this says it better than I ever can:

He holds the Duggar's parenting style above reproach, after they covered-up multiple sexual assaults within their own family. And their "church" also played a part in that cover-up, since that is who supposedly provided "counseling" to the young Duggar kid...the "elders" are who the parents went to after the rapes were revealed. I guess that's the "moral" way to handle it, eh Huckabee?
I hope that the girls who were visitors to that "home" and also suffered at the hands of the eldest Duggar son can still bring a lawsuit against the family, but I'd be willing to bet they were conned into some sort of "settlement" to silence them.

(100,102 posts)Sure being a celebrity has something to do with it, but there's absolutely no denying that religion plays a huge part in sex crime. Really it's disgusting that people can get away with the most disgusting and disturbing sex crimes if they play the religious angle.
