Hello,
My name is Lance, and even though I am not a big poster, I have been a member of DU for quite a while. I own a mobile home park in East Tennessee that has been in my family for 3 generations. below is the link to my gofundme page that explains the situation.

I am in very dire straits here as explained on the gofundme page and am at the end of the rope. I am about to lose a business that has been in my family since 1972 because the City Utility forces me to pay for the water/sewer bills for mobile homes that have been individually metered, yet if the tenants do not reimburse me, I have no recourse because according to Tennessee state law, a landlord cannot cut-off utilities.
I hate asking for help, but if anyone can help with even $5 it would be appreciated. I will try to ask any questions about the situation as well.

(4,019 posts)but do you think any local tv stations might help you by bringing attention to how unfair this is?
It seems like a strange billing system if each lot is actually set up with their own meter. What is the reasoning for that, do you know?

(1,495 posts)is firmly in the Utilities pocket. Everyone assumes I have a lot of money, and doesn't realize the business has shrunk 50% in 5 years. The City Utility is demanding a $1,800 tap fee for each resident in order for them to come in and bill individually.

(5,417 posts)The idea is if you have a large leak or fill up a pool, you are not using the sewer, so you can get a credit on the sewer portion of your bill (which is much higher than the water charge). Obviously septic users wouldnt be able to claim this.
Just letting you know in case its an option and you have not heard of it.

(1,495 posts)I asked the city utility about that. They only do leak rebates for commercial or residential customers. Since the park uses over 100,000 gallons a month it is considered industrial and is not eligible for a leak rebate.
