Romney assaulted another human being because of his sexual orientation. That's a hate crime folks.

There's a reason why hate crimes laws exist in the United States. It's because of people like Mitt Romney who attack people because of their perceived membership in a certain social group. In this case, Romney assaulted that young individual because Romney perceived him to be a homosexual. It was clearly bias-motivated violence. Hate crime.

Mitt Romney shouldn't be anywhere near the Presidency and it's as simple as that. This is very serious. This is not like smoking a joint when you're in high school.

Yes, it is. But the Bush oligarchs and their candidates don't worry about that. nt EFerrari May 2012 #2

"the thought that fellow was homosexual was the furthest thing from our minds back in the 1960s"

He knows the seriousness of what he did. Does he honestly think that anyone who lived thru the turmoil of the sixties believes such a statement?

There is no way on earth a person forgets doing something like that to another person...he knows exactly what he did to John Lauber and he also knows exactly WHY he did it!

Yes, how fitting that the rethugs choose a goon who committed a HATE CRIME as their candidate. The tradition continues.

Bullies simply don't like noncomformists, and the kid's hair color (which Romney should have respected) could have triggered Romney's response.

One example is "nerds" who get picked on badly by classmates for either being very smart or dressing in different ways. I think this news should be used against Romney by the Democrats; but I hear of no indication that Romney did it because the kid was gay.

what homosexuality was. He just picked on the "different" boy. But for me, the key word here is ASSAULT. It doesn't have to be a hate crime to be illegal. He could have been tried for assault - crime enough. Ignorance of one's own motivations is no defense, then or now, Mittens.
