LINCOLN A death threat was left on a state senators answering machine early Tuesday amid what lawmakers described as a sometimes harsh effort to retain capital punishment in Nebraska.
The lawmaker, who supports the repeal of the death penalty, spoke on condition of anonymity out of concern for his family. He confirmed that the call was made to his office about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.
May you rest in hell is how the call, from a woman, ended.
Speaker of the Legislature Sen. Galen Hadley of Kearney said he was unaware of the death threat but had heard that some staff members and senators had received other calls of a threatening nature.
