My wife and I just brought a 6-week old silver tabby kitten home. No photos yet, but we've introduced her to the two dogs and our other cat, and all approve. Dude, our beagle-basset has sniffed her thoroughly, including rolling her over on her back with his nose and snuffling her belly. Last I saw, he was lying next to his dog bed, where the kitty is getting a much-deserved nap. He's on guard to protect his new friend from any possible harm.
My wife has christened this little kitty girl with the name "Butch."
Yay! New kitteh to fill the shoes of our 19-year-old cat, Scout, who finished her time on the planet a few weeks ago.

Congratulations on the new kitty!

(146,329 posts)Butch is asleep in a dog bed almost the same color as her own cute self. Not much contrast there. I'll post something when we get a good shot of her. I'm thinking a litter box photo would be good. Demonstrates the wonderful way they learn to be polite so quickly. Unlike the doggies, who occasionally leave me a gift in the basement, near my desk.

Everyone gets a kick out of it because he's really not very butch at all.

(146,329 posts)The home where she was born was complete with multiple dogs and a flock of children, so she's already had some exposure to chaos and handling. She seems happy to be sleeping right now. Once she wakes up, she'll start exploring, if she's like all other kittens I've adopted. Nothing will be safe any longer. The dogs will be playmates and beds, depending on the time of day, and our new furniture is at great risk, I'm sure.
My wife tells me that kitty will be comfortable on the bed tonight. Uff da!

I live vicariously through all my DU friends who have kitties! We lost ours a couple of years ago and haven't made the commitment to a new addition. I don't think our German shepherd would get along well (she loves to chase cats, birds, raccoons, deer, etc. ). I'd be afraid she'd hurt it. She was fine with Max, but he had been our 'only' for a few years before we adopted Noelle, so she thought Max was master of the house.

(50,453 posts)I have a rescue cat, big tabby with 6 toes on each of his front paws, whose name is ......well, I called him Brutus, due to his loving but brutal headbutts he gives but he disdainfully refuses to answer to any name. Taking him to the vet is fun, trying to explain he only answers to sppppspppppsppps and that's it, lol.
