JMHO. A nasty comment like that should have a karma hit back 5x.

They feel anonymous. They're not, but the illusion allows them to say things many would never say face to face to another person.

The really sad fact is I'm not surprised. I went to a video on YouTube about the death of Kara Kennedy and there was vile crap there as well. Whether you want it to or not, that kind of negativity and hatred stays with you and eats at you inside.

People post comments about the music and musicians and some are so vile. There are a lot of unhinged people out there.

When I look at the comments on a news article usually nearly all of the really tasteless, racist or just plain out hateful stuff seems to come from republicans.

Democrats often seem to comment on the actual material of the article, where it seems where conservatives come in it either goes toward calling people "libtards" or always veers to black people and rap music or people on welfare even if there is absolutely nothing in the article dealing with that.

and unregulated. Becuase of some very specific folks I am to the exact other extreme and I approve every post manually.

This is not Fox doing, this is their viewers, and as somebody noted above, it is not even the NSA... IP addresses are left like bird droppings, as well at times as email addresses.

This is definitely true - the comment sections are the scourge of the internet. A lot of sites do leave their comments section unmoderated, and a lot of posters post from VPN (virtual private network) which makes the source of the poster not as easily traceable as if they were posting from a traditional IP. It wouldn't surprise me if people making comments that ugly and hateful comments are hiding behind VPNs as opposed to IPs, but at the same time like I said in another post no one is completely anonymous. If the NSA or Secret Service wanted to trace the IP or VPN they can easily do so.

I recently did "ban" a few using IPs... the software is automating them living in the spam folder. So I don't have to read their crap, and take out the trash manually.

Poster on USA Today calls Beau Biden a "leech" for getting treatment at Walter Reed.

I like to think that a lot of these people are trolls trying to get a rise out of people because I can't bear to think that these opinions are honestly held.

Not every story needs to be open to comments from the Ignorant Peanut Gallery.
