Senator and 2016 candidate Rand Paul (R-KY) said on Morning Joe Wednesday that the policies of the hawks in his party were at least partly responsible for the rise of ISIS, the Sunni militants currently marauding across Syria and Iraq.
[Senator] Lindsey Graham (R-SC) would say, ISIS exists because of people like Rand Paul who said lets not go into Syria, host Joe Scarborough posed.
I would say its exactly the opposite, Paul said. ISIS exists and grew stronger because of the hawks in our party who gave arms indiscriminately, and most of those arms were snatched up by ISIS. These hawks also wanted to bomb [Syrian President Bashar] Assad, which would have made ISIS job even easier. They created these people.
ISIS is all over Libya, because these saying hawks in my party, they loved Hillary Clintons war in Libya, they just wanted more of it, he continued. So everything theyve talked about in foreign policy theyve been wrong about for 20 years, yet they somehow have the gall to point the finger otherwise.

(6,409 posts)The Republicans like war, any war. If it's waged under their president, they use it a litmus test of patriotism. If it's waged under a Democratic president, they criticize it as poorly run, too expensive, etc. This is why Republicans are eager to vote for a war, no matter what the party of a president. They know they can use it to their advantage.

(1,333 posts)he gets it wrong. Was it McCain and Graham that injected tons of weapons and funding to the Syria conflict? The problem with his statement is that he only implicated the ones from his own party and I too would be pissed as hell if a democrat threw the party completely under the bus when both sides are at fault.
This is the final nail in his coffin as a candidate and this happened even before the first debate.
