Not just the music, but their amazing committment and real caring about humanity. Death threats for their civil rights activities, farm workers, re-uniting after 7 years to singing protest about the Diablo nuke plant sitting on the San Andreas Fault. "If there was a cause, they were there for it."
There is nothing like this now. Nothing to stir our souls like they, and so many othet folksingers did.
I was in a trio in high school...we sang around town...most memorable was singing "the cruel war is raging...." at an Old Guard meeting and seeing old vets crying...
Sigh..
I still have their debut album tucked away....

(205,505 posts)I got to see them in concert back in the '80s on one of their reunion tours, and they were still just the best. When I was too young to be aware of such things, my mother was part of a group that ushered at one of their concerts when they performed locally, must have been in the early '60s, wish so much I could have been there!

(46,337 posts)How they were called "traitors" and all sorts of nasty names, since they protested the Reagan Central America policies.
I've loved them my entire life, and I still miss Mary.

(205,505 posts)And the group performed there. Unfortunately, it was after my time, would have loved that when I was there.
