Democracy: Wassup with that?

It means the People make the choices of what government will do.

Presently, the People make their choices mainly via the vote. A vote wherein we elect a person to be in government and make decisions about what the government shall do.

That's the republic part, meaning that the people do not make the decisions, but the individuals we elect, do.

The people can, of course, make their voices heard when the elected persons gather to decide what to do. Sometimes that works. I've done it and seen it work.

Our democracy problem we are faced with these days is that the individuals elected are not always the best, nor are elected by true majorities of the People.

The cure for our ill democracy is more democracy. One thing we saw recently was the vote in Colorado overturning decade old laws via the vote. So we know the vote can work. We just are not allowed to do so often enough.

I propose that in our local communities, a weekly vote is taken, polling the People about what government shall do as concerns issues presented to them.

The cure for our ill democracy is more democracy. Meaning we vote on just about anything and everything.

Not many here really give a shit about a real, healthy democracy. They rather just bitch and moan. Color me unsurprised. I have been reading DU for going on 14 years. Bitching and moaning and fucking horse races are more DU's style than discussing real democracy, eh?
