Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) said over the weekend that U.S. troops were ready to go back to Iraq to fight ISIS.
In an interview with ABCs Jonathan Karl that aired on Sunday, Ernst pointed out that she had not yet made a call for ground troops to be redeployed to Iraq.
I am not ready to put ground troops in, but I think we are coming to a juncture where we will have to make that hard decision, Ernst argued.
How would you tell those military families, again though, when so many have fought, so many have died, how do you say were going to go back again? Karl wondered.

(6,409 posts)Of course they're ready. They will go if they're ordered to go. But I bet many of the National Guard and Reserve soldiers are not all that eager to go back to Iraq for the third, fourth, or fifth time, then have their stays extended by stop-loss orders. Ernst is a nut job who believes her cheap super-patriotism is justified because she spent time in a combat zone. She just assumes other military people feel the same way she feels, and love fighting for the sake of fighting.

(3,580 posts)Both got out of the military after multiple combat tours. They were worried they'd have to go again while most if us stayed home.

(47,953 posts)We fight, while the Iraqi's watch. If the people of Iraq don't wish to fight, why should we? Especially since our 'allies' in the oil states keep IS afloat.
If people really want this stuff to end, they will put serious pressure on Saudi Arabia to stop its proxy war against Syria and Shiites. Otherwise, be willing to accept that a large chunk of Syria/Iraq and maybe more will be under the local Taliban for the foreseeable future.
