Texas Police Officer Suspended After Pulling Weapon On Teens During Pool Party

Officers were called to the a local community pool around 7:15 p.m. local time to respond to a “disturbance involving multiple juveniles at the location, who do not live in the area or have permission to be there, refusing to leave,” the McKinney Police Department said in a post on its Facebook page. Other calls also advised that the teens were “actively fighting,” police said.

“First responding officers encountered a large crowd that refused to comply with police commands. Nine additional units responded to the scene. Officers were eventually able to gain control of the situation,” police said.

However, video later emerged of one officer aggressively handcuffing and detaining teens who described themselves as bystanders, before wrestling a girl in a bathing suit to the ground and drawing his weapon on others who came to her aid.

After ordering a girl to leave the area, the officer can be seen throwing her to the ground and pushing her head down.

Is there any activity black people can do, where they can feel free and safe from society at large? Seems the list is ever shrinking.

The cop was clearly enraged and pulled his gun (escalation mistake number three or four). Then the two other cops walk up to him and appear to realize he's out of control, and one of them touches his shoulder to try calm him. That the hysterical cop didn't pull the trigger at that pont out of fear is nothing short of a miracle.

Even though from the info in the OP I was sure nobody had been shot, I still tensed up when he drew his weapon as in his agitated state and the general chaos at the scene (much of it his doing), it just would have been all too easy for the gun to go off, either intentionally or accidentally.

I pray he never patrols the streets again. Someday the likely outcome is not going to be as fortunate.

and racist as the only people he commanded to sit or leave were black. The white people were free to mill around and watch his ass escalate the situation completely — the heavy white guy in the polo shirt, and the other white guy for instance.

And why didn't he go after the adult, racial slur-hurling white woman who started the whole thing by punching the teenage black girl?

This crap is sickening that authoritarian a holes can just zero in on someone and put them in cuffs/arrest them and thereby change their whole life path as far as college, job prospects, earnings — all those kinds of things that are affected by police records.

Instead of being "peace" officers they show up end up creating their own mayhem.. The public needs to be told why so many police departments seems like they're being trained to treat the citizens they're supposed to be protecting like they're some kind of enemy. These are just unarmed kids for God's sake. As a dad the way that cop treated that young girl???? And then he actually drew his weapon? Clearly he wasn't being threatened... I'm speechless...

David DuVal I'm am a 51 yr. old, conservative white man from Tulsa, Ok who has worked all my life, paying taxes and have been a loyal patriot of this country. If our police training and hiring results in a grown man putting his knees and full weight of his body into the back of an unarmed and what appears to a teenage girl, then our pollice training and hiring is a total and complete failure. I mentioned my demographic because there are millions of men like me who will NEVER accept our blessed nation becoming something this hideous and dispicable. I have several police/OHP and DA office friends who I am sure agree with me. There will be total reform in police departments across the nation because this will NEVER be tolerated and will be completey eliminated. So, as far as that terrible cop goes, and any other law enforcement with an obvious mental disorder(s) and/or handicap, your services will NEVER be allowed again. We the people will not EVER accept this. Our nation has fought the worst of enemies in the past. This is nothing. This is just taking the garbage out. I, and every other good citizen of this country, expect, and will not accept anything short of TOTAL reform of police tactics, training and procedures. How did this guy get hired? Something this disturbing doesn't just appear some day. I am sure the problem is systemic. If I lived in the community I would consider a complete purge of all leadership as well. I would bring every charge possible against the cop. I would consider legislation to bring stronger charges in the future. But, more importantly, Mckinney, Texas City government needs to take a hard look at what kind of brutality you are unleashing on what should be a lovely community. I wouldn't allow it if I were mayor. Your whole community service culture needs to be complete gutted and reinvented. You are very sick right now. You need to act decisive, sure, and with crystal clear vision and return your community back to the culture our forefathers created and our fallen soldiers died for. If you don't, you will loose your nation forever.

... ought to be a prerequiste for police work.

I didn't survive that long as a teacher in rougher public schools with actual gangsters and much worse (especially parents), but never once did I lose it like those cops did.

All I see here is a bunch of ordinary, maybe even mostly affluent, teenaged kids.

Authority is something you as an adult, a parent, a teacher, even as a cop, have to earn.

The title or badge is nothing.
