Anyone else have daughters who are excited about the possibility of a female president?

Who have learned in history classes about the white male presidents ad nauseam and are thrilled to perhaps witness history in the making?

Mine are!

that one of Hillary's strong points was that she was a woman.

I am a woman and I would love to see a woman president of this country. Yes, it's about time. But I also care about the kind of woman we get as a president, and I don't think Hillary is the one we need (not from my perspective).

But why is it sexist to say that is one of her strong points in this election?

I think women have things to offer that men can't. Important things in running a country.

Unfortunately, Hillary is more like a man than a woman in most of her motives. She is war hawk and a corporatist, and I don't want a female POTUS with those priorities.

because she was thrilled, thrilled I tell you, to see that the current President's daughters looked like her.

I thought that was a great moment, but then her WASP mother said, "It's about time we had a blonde girl in the White House. I was struck dumb, because in this person's lifetime there's been Susan Ford, Amy Carter, Maureen Reagan (though she didn't live in the WH), Chelsea Clinton, and Jenna Bush. She just missed Tricia Nixon. It made me realize that some people want it all, and "taking turns" is completely unfair to them.

To suggest that all women would only vote for someone based on gender?

So women are not voting for Hillary because of her experience or her brains or her politics. But they are voting for her because she's a woman?

The Democratic party seems to be obsessed with identity politics right now. It might win us 2016, but not really sure if that's a good thing for the long term. Nor do I think it will solve our bigger social and gender issues. But that's just my opinion.

On the other hand, as a 'daughter' when Maggie Thatcher came to power, I never felt anything but horror at her.

I don't think Hillary Clinton is a Thatcher, and would be happy to see her as president; but I don't automatically feel happy at women politicians just because they're women.

Three of the current candidates for the Labour Party leadership are women, and I like one and dislike another (the third, I know almost nothing about).
