Jerry Seinfeld Says Colleges Are Too Politically Correct, Kids Don't Understand Racism Or Sexism

College kids are too politically correct for Jerry Seinfeld.
The comedian spoke to ESPN Radio host Colin Cowherd for an episode of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" to promote the latest season of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," and the two talked about political correctness and comedy. Cowherd commented how comedians like Chris Rock and Larry the Cable Guy won't perform at college campuses for this very reason.
"I hear that all the time," Seinfeld said. "I don't play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me, 'Don't go near colleges. They're so PC.' I'll give you an example: My daughter's 14. My wife says to her, 'Well, you know, in the next couple years, I think maybe youre going to want to be hanging around the city more on the weekends, so you can see boys.' You know what my daughter says? She says, Thats sexist. They just want to use these words: 'Thats racist;' 'Thats sexist;' 'Thats prejudice.' They dont know what the f--k theyre talking about.
The 61-year-old star said this hurts comedy, and commended Louis C.K., who recently landed in hot water over his "Saturday Night Live" monologue about child molestation, for not worrying and just doing his thing.

(17,200 posts)What proportion of the rising generation attends them? Mr Seinfeld is a comedian, does he expect his generalization to be taken seriously?

(16,399 posts)As well as a ton of local stations. I think I hear people talk about it as much now as when it was on NBC.

(32,342 posts)It's not a big topic of conversation among their pop culture references, in my experience.

(1,957 posts)Seinfeld said his 14-yo doesn't know what that means, not college kids.
Next...his complaint about his daughter shows an example of his failing. It's his duty to provide for those distinctions. Not the fault of the daughter who doesn't know them.
The last thing is about he accusation of colleges being PC. That's a second hand accusation and is even further removed from any way of judging PC than even being in a college atmosphere.
I think it's more that college level people are a little better at seeing bullshit for what it is. That's an essential part of their curriculum.

(22 posts)But it has always been like that with college campuses and comedy. He's being a little too much of a "Captain Obvious" here....

(3,411 posts)So far removed from college kids.
He might as well be an investment banker at Wall Street

(20,805 posts)..never 'got' him as a comedian..His stand up is marginally better than his below-par tv show, but only just...

(14,733 posts)He's the one that apparently doesn't understand sexism or racism. When his kids point out that he's being sexist, he just blows it off as 'PC'.

(16,399 posts)It was his wife who made the comment that got the "sexist" reply. I have to assume you didn't read the article, so I'm just here to help.
Sounds like a mom being a mom. Unless his daughter plans to grow up asexual.

(14,733 posts)Maybe she's interested in things other than the preconceived stereotypes her parents have of her. Maybe she thinks she doesn't have to 'have a man' in her life to be successful and happy.

(16,399 posts)But maybe when she grows up she'll want to hang out in the city to meet girls.
But do you want to put odds on that?

(39,343 posts)A guy walks into a bar.
GD response: Why not a woman (that's sexist), or a disabled (I mean differently-abled) person in a wheel chair. And why are they going into a bar? This didn't have a trigger warning for someone who might be the child or spouse of an alcohol addicted person...
Jerry's right, it's not worth the trouble.

(78,249 posts)In fact, many of us find 'differently-abled' to be rather cloying.
The word to be avoided at all cots is 'handicapped', or even worse, 'handi-capable'.

(12,151 posts)Dated a 17-yr-old school kid when he was in his ... late 30s?
When his new wife wrote a successful book about "sneaking vegetables into kids' foods," with many striking similarities (down to the recipes) to one written previously by a little-known author, he went on Letterman to make fun of the woman who wrote the first book for suing, chuckling about how she had "three names, like a serial killer" or some such.
I've seen him online as himself on a forum about Porsches (a great passion of his) and the first time anyone tries to be amusing, he's ready with "Please don't try to be funny."
Nasty guy, near as I can tell. Nice he got lucky with the chemistry on his television show and make krazillion bucks, but Jerry Seinfeld is probably not someone who needs to be giving anyone advice on what constitutes either humor or good taste.

Seinfeld may need to face facts and recognize that he's simply not relevant or funny anymore.
And where the hell is the sequel to The Bee Movie?
