Official: 49 bodies left on Mexico highway

AP, via Detroit Free Press:

MONTERREY, Mexico — Forty-nine bodies, at least some of them mutilated, were found Sunday dumped on a highway connecting the northern Mexican metropolis of Monterrey to the U.S. border, officials said.

A law enforcement official said the bodies of 43 men and six women were found in the town of San Juan on the non-toll highway to the border city of Reynosa at about 4 a.m. (5 a.m. EDT; 0900 GMT), but officials were still investigating.

Authorities closed off the highway, blocking the way for hundreds of motorists, as federal and state police, joined by Mexican troops, sealed off the scene.

The law enforcement official asked that his name not be used because he was not authorized to release the information. The details, however, match reports in Mexican news media. ................(more)

I believe they may be too far gone at this point to crack down and stop this mess. These guys are in charge and the Mexican officials just turn the other way. It is insane!

Not the money wasting boondoggle we've been waging here, but a real shooting war against the monsters who have taken over their country. They own the police and are the absolute law in many regions of Mexico, and should meet a like force. If they have to, hire mercenaries.

It certainly isn't getting better, and soon it'll kill off tourism. I wouldn't travel South of the border.

It was as predictable as gravity that such a huge black market would generate ever increasing corruption and violence.

I think it's gone beyond fixing now, even outright legalizing drugs won't do it at this point although it might help

Her firm has provided private security to escort her at all times, but I am still rather antsy.

What has this world evolved to, when the criminals run an entire country?
