No-Fly Zone Ordered For Hillary Clinton’s New York City Kickoff Rally

Federal officials today took the rare step of creating a "no-fly zone" around the site of Hillary Clinton’s campaign kickoff rally in New York City on Saturday.

The Federal Aviation Administration established the protective zone in the form of a so-called "Notice to Airmen" announcing that a section along Manhattan’s East Side will be temporarily transformed into "national defense airspace."

The FAA website lists the reason as "Temporary flight restrictions for VIP Movement" and cites the federal law that the FAA employs to ban flights over events attended by the president, vice president or other key dignitaries.

"The United States government may use deadly force against the airborne aircraft if it is determined that the aircraft poses an imminent security threat," according to the notice.
Clinton’s rally -- planned as the largest event of her presidential campaign so far -- will take place on Roosevelt Island, a narrow sliver of land in the East River located between Manhattan and Queens.

As the wife of former President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton is still guarded by a Secret Service detail. The former president is expected to attend tomorrow’s event.

"This is highly unusual," a spokesman for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, told ABC News. The "no fly zones," also known as "Temporary Flight Restrictions" are issued about 1,000 times a year, according to the association. But they usually are not issued for candidates for president.

Roosevelt Island is on the Flight plan for planes going south from LaGuardia Airport.

If you knew that you would know why the zone was declared a no fly zone.

But you want to make Hillary look bad but the only one who looks bad is YOU.

Naw, he'd turn it down! He's one of us! Risk his life everyday for us for no good reason other than to prove he's one of us. Let's also forget the disadvantage to us of having our president subject to any and all random threats because he turns down the Secret Service and all those other special privileges!

SECSTATE. An exclusion zone over the island for a short period is a smart idea.

None of the people running for POTUS are "one of us." They're politicians. They work in a different atmosphere....even those who seem like they're "one of us" -- they aren't. It's a different world.

There are a lot of people in the world that would like to kill Hillary Clinton.

The temporary flight restrictions are believed to be helpful in preventing that.

Perhaps you might consider how it comes across if you find that funny or excessive.

There is a history in this country of people trying and/or succeeding in killing presidential candidates. Bobby Kennedy was shot. George Wallace was permanently disabled.

Is that how you'd like your candidate to win?

And you spoke volumes. I'm pretty happy we have a government stable enough to protect our past presidents and leaders. It was amazing what they use to do each weekend for Carter at church. I got to watch it a couple of years ago. I am extremely happy and am smart enough to know I don't need the same kind of protections from threats at home and around the globe as they do.

I'm seeing here a mere hatred for people who managed to succeed to become President. Do you think ex Presidents are as safe as you are and don't need or deserve Secret Service protection after they leave office? So it's all being done just to make them feel big about themselves?

And it's not exactly a perk. Rich unknown people can enjoy their riches without being followed around by government agents. A lot of privacy goes down the tube with it.

And becomes privileged? Certainly the WH he would be. That'll surely make him change his mind about the issues. Seems winning the WH alone is an evil thing to do. It makes you part of the 1% and no one in the 1% can ever do anything with good intent.

I do not have a problem with making it a no fly zone for a few hours.

You are talking about the city where TWO planes flew in to buildings.
There was a lot of preliminary notice about the where and when of the
announcement. And I suspect a lot of people are sick enough, full of enough
hate, to think 'what a great target'.

I have NO problem at all with the heightened security...and I'm not particularly
fond of Hillary. I have yet to give money or time to either Bernie or Hillary, although
I'm leaning Bernie.
