For example, during the Baltimore protests I read the local coverage in the Baltimore Sun and watching live feeds from the local CBS affiliate.

Actually, not joking, if you want news locally that you can use Like now, some counties do put a pretty extensive news service. Things like fire status, equipment buys, when government gets awards, and things from county health, like when you got outbreaks of what.

For policy a site called governing is pretty good for municipal issues.

For national I like foreign policy a lot, as well as the Guardian. I am a fan of vice too
