My medical staff
Dr.Moonpie on the top
Dr.Tater on the bottom
Dr.Moonpie follows me everywhere to make sure I am ok and to be sure she won't miss any treats.
Dr.Tater knows I need to keep moving. She stays in other rooms making loud and unusual noises. I have to go check because there is no telling what she is doing.
(She is the kitten who got a new loaf of bread off the counter, dragged it to her play area, and jumped up and down on it. She didn't tear the bag at all. Tater just left me a bag of crumbs and croutons.)
I am still sore but less so than yesterday. I walk to my mailbox in the morning for a longer stroll. However, "Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun."

(22,271 posts)What happened? You're "medical staff?" What? Just got back to DU a couple of days ago and am still trying to catch up. Love the torties!

(17,111 posts)It has turned out to be no big deal and that's what everybody says. However, you never know.
I am just sore, but it isn't unbearable.
That's why I have medical staff.

(23,720 posts)After that is my bigger surgery, my take down from when I ruptured by bowels last November. I've been assured by my surgeon that neither procedure will be as invasive as my rupture, so it should be a piece of cake, no? Glad you're getting up and around.
BTW, how big is your incision and where is it at?
Are_grits_groceries
(17,111 posts)Many of my relatives chimed in and said it was not bad and that I would feel much better.
They use the laparoscope method. They made a 4inch incision through my navel. They made 3 other small incisions around my right side. The one through the navel is where the soreness is but it has not been unbearable.
Good luck with your surgeries.

(14,691 posts)was removed, it was one incision about 1 1/2 inches long (a little longer than planned because the GB was really fkd up). Other than that I was back at work in a week.

(17,111 posts)umbilical cord hernia that I had no clue about. They may have needed more incisions to do that.
LiberalElite
(14,691 posts)easy-peasy except they had trouble getting the tube down my throat. "Something wasn't where we thought it would be." was what I was told.
Feel better.

(16,296 posts)When I had my GB taken out, I had to walk to hospital thru a blizzard fighting off the wolves. Then old doc Sturgeus , who had just stumbled in from an all night drinking bout with his Norwegian friends, told me to bite on a dried herring as he proceeded with the operation with his rusty saw fashioned from an old harpoon hook.
Really, had mine done in late 60's and they cut me from rib cage to groin. Seems like common procedure back then was to remove the appendix while they had their hands in you. Removed ONE stone the size of a marble. God, still remember the pain crippling me before removal. Now with micro-surgery it has got to be a breeze.

(23,720 posts)Right now I have a scar (still numb) from right under my breastbone, then it curves around my belly button and ends just above my pelvic area. So they go right through you belly button huh?

(65,377 posts)questions, PM me. I have done quite a lot of reading, talking to others who had the surgery some time ago, and "experimenting" to figure out how to avoid some of the potential post-op issues that can follow gall bladder surgery.
My own medical team has only one tortoiseshell (Tango). But I also have a calico, a Siamese (she is 1/2 Siamese, actually, but looks like a purebred lynx point Siamese), and a 1/2 Siamese black shorthair. They do take care of us--in *some* ways--don't they?

(51,076 posts)but I guess its going to take some divine intervention
I spent a week in the hospital at the VA with a DVT and when Sunday came around and they wanted to pray over me I said NO thanks. The reaction to that showed me all I needed to be shown. thats where that divine intervention remark came from.
thanks

(17,111 posts)When I was there, the president was RC Edwards. His wife was nicknamed Moonpie and she was a great sport about it.
When he passed, he was buried in a cemetery just off campus. There was a 'motorcade' through the campus on the way to his burial. Students lined the streets holding up RCs and Moonpies. I thought it was a perfect tribute.

(17,111 posts)Knock on wood.
My feline physics are board certified and at times just bored. Having them to think about keeps me from dwelling on myself. When I felt really bad several years go, taking care of Scat and Mousie pulled me through. I cannot bear to leave anything they need unattended.

(23,996 posts)..."bored certified"?
It sounds as if you are recovering well. I am so glad to hear that.
Seeing as there is truth to the old saw that "Laughter if the best medicine," and you are a cat lover, I think you will find this link tailor made to assist your recuperation with humor. It is a link to a rescue organization in British Columbia which works with both feral and abandoned cats.
One of their members has been fostering 2 litters - one from an abandoned pet named Eve, who has 5 kittens who are now about 7 weeks old, and one from a feral mom named Sloane, who gave birth to 4 kittens 2 weeks after the domestic litter. Momma Sloane was spayed on Thursday and returned to her feral colony, and her 4 babies were put together with Eve and her 5. Momma Eve has been allowing the 4 younger babies to nurse, which is awesome. When all 9 are playing, it is like a room full of water drops on a hot skillet. I have been watching for hours on end. Some addictions are good for us.

BTW I like to watch YouTube clips of performers on America's Got Talent and shows like that. The ones I look for are those where the judges think the people won't be any good and they are.

(16,296 posts)but I do remember when I was sent home and laid in bed, the cat jumped up and laid beside me and put his head - ever so gently - on my stitched up side. He stayed there for a minute then jumped down and went to do other cat business. A nice memory.

(4,035 posts)They look adorable!
I had my gallbladder out in 2010, and even though there was apparently some complications during surgery (which took several hours longer than usual) I stayed at the out-patient facility during the night, and took 3-hrs of public transport home the day after. I had a friend with me, which was nice, and my parents came and stayed with me for a week two days later, but honestly, it was no problem. I had to do a no-fat diet for 6 months afterwards, and that went well too. My mom had her gallbladder out a year and a half ago at 60+ years old, and had no big problems managing Christmas dinner the week after (eating it, that is. We cooked!)
I wish you a speedy recovery, and plenty of cuddles with your staff
