we need to nominate.... Bernie Sanders!
PS, I thought her kick-off speech was great. No, she's not in the same class as Obama when it comes to delivering speeches, but it was overall an excellent (and very progressive) speech.

(24,689 posts)her story and experience and message are compelling enough. I am convinced she can win.

(18,421 posts)The content of it however is very telling. Middle of the road, status quo, "compromise".

(20,709 posts)Economically it was very populist. Hit a lot of the same notes that Bernie has been sounding.

(12,504 posts)Based on many of the points she raised, many she reiterated for decades....no huge policy differences. Much clearer on economics and delineated 4 specific steps for national betterment. Sanders tends to go on and on about all of the problems and inequalities. Riling up futile anger...but I dont tend to hear realistic workable improvements.
Fearless
(18,421 posts)Just FYI. It's the cousin to "radical".

(12,504 posts)The more lefty the policy, the more nuttery crappola the RW throws at it . You do everyone a disservice when you attempt to reinterpret that which was not said.

(18,421 posts)Funny that.
So you are incorrect.

(12,504 posts)I have no idea how that fits not this conversation. But going with your new thought.....Indies have no track to the White House except as riding the coat tails of another party. Hence Bernie running on the Dem Ticket. No spoilers remember? Indies are a voting block, just like women and pic and unions..... but not a viable 3rd party

(114,904 posts)I thought she was very good. Obviously I'm talking about style and not content. She was relaxed and engaged and seemed to be having fun. She's gotten a lot better at giving speeches over the past 7 years.

(3,533 posts)why doesn't she try news conferences with questions from reporters to see if that is where she excels?

I've been told that when I get wound up I'm a pretty good speechifier

(242 posts)I'm almost certain I could have given a better speech than that monstrosity.
She's supposed to rally people, not make them think "hey, maybe the right-wing is on to something" insomuch as she's pretty shrill as a speaker.
The democratic party is doing a huge disservice to itself if it nominates her....
Unfortunate.

(14,308 posts)She reminded me of a teacher talking to a classroom of third graders with hearing disabilities.
She got better and better as the speech went on and by the end I was happy with it.
Could have picked a more recent song than "Yesterday" to show the Republicans were the past and she was the future.

(25,111 posts)the negative criticism and downright hatred will ensue. Recently a gentle person posted that supporters of HRC should expect this . . . keep moving forward.

(1,713 posts)You're promoting a candidate who holds major policies that directly contradict the express will of the actual people who make up the party, who won't take questions about that expectations gap (or any other subject), and who gives an strong appearance of using prior office as a means to personal enrichment while leaving no tangible gains for the people she had a duty to serve.
Previous answers to these questions have included citations of poll numbers, claims of electability and/or inevitability, attacks on detractors, and straight-up false claims. So it shouldn't be unexpected that people in general are not going to be receptive to more such disrespect from a candidate who is asking for their vote. That the candidate is visibly traumatized by the prospect of actually appearing in person and interacting with the great unwashed plebes like ourselves is not helping the case any.
leftofcool
(19,460 posts)It is only the socialists who don't like her policies. The majority of Democrats support her which is evident by her poll numbers.
Man from Pickens
(1,713 posts)We have a good list of policies where she plainly does not have the support of the party, which include trade, foreign policy, economic, and criminal justice issues - big ones, important ones. I do not consider myself a socialist, yet I don't like her policies in those areas either and for many of the same reasons as socialists have.
And yet you cite to me a poll (which as I mentioned before, is an inadequate and unconvincing piece of data) and directly claim otherwise.
So yes, as long as this typifies the kind of interaction and communication from the campaign, strong skepticism is absolutely what should be expected.

(1,713 posts)Once she starts talking about content then that opens the door to discussing her actual record on a specific policy, at which point the scripted narrative unravels and all hell breaks loose.
Thus the "no questions allowed" press policy.

(26,549 posts)Say, a web site. With her name on it. That doesn't get any deeper than the platitudes from her speech.
Well, she's only been planning to do this for at least 9 years now. It takes some time to develop deeply-held core principles.

(34,825 posts)I think she's a terrible speaker. Monotonous in tone, and coming across as reading her speech, rather than speaking to the audience. Your mileage may very, and I'm certain that it does.

(10,362 posts)The Bernie supporters think Bernie's vastly superior stances on the issues warrant their votes. The poor speaking skills are merely noteworthy, and were mentioned years before Bernie entered the race.

(72,790 posts)Not a Hillary fan at all, but her not being the greatest public speaker is of little concern to me. I really don't care how well or not a candidate can deliver a speech. That matters little to me.
