WATERLOO | Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders encouraged supporters in Waterloo to think big about the future of the United States, while taking time to address everyday concerns Americans face.
Sanders, Vermonts junior senator, seemed to hit all the right notes for the audience of nearly 500 people. They listened to his hour-long speech Sunday at the Waterloo Center for the Arts.
As he touched on money in politics, health care, the trade deal before Congress, climate change, immigration reform, criminal justice reform, education, student debt and more, Sanders kept the crowd cheering for his positions.
But in between offering a progressive platform, Sanders shared a message that he cannot succeed without the audiences help.
We can do all these things and more, but we cannot do it, unless we change the political culture in this country, unless people understand and I dont want to get too radical here but maybe people should understand what happens in Washington and in your state capital is almost as important as the Saturday football game, Sanders said.

(9,527 posts)This is how he can put a dent in the lead Hillary has. While I think it's crappy that Iowa is always first, they do at least allow for a more personal level of political campaigning that lesser known candidates can take advantage of.
