If you want to watch a 178-foot water tower in Plano fall over this morning, you’re in luck

Aw, should have taken the morning off to watch this I literally drove by this yesterday picking my daughter up from a sleepover. (while it was still standing )

Update at 9:23 a.m. from staff writer Meredith Shamburger: Demolition crews successfully “tipped” a Plano water tower near State Highway 121 and the Dallas North Tollway Monday morning, bringing the 178-foot-tower structure down by cutting away at the base. There’s video above and below if you didn’t get to see it live.

Gerald Cosgrove, Director of Public Works, said everything went well. “I’ve seen videos of it before and [this] was similar. There wasn’t any surprises,” he said.

Crews were working throughout the morning to cut away at the tower’s base. A five-minute warning was called at 9 a.m., and the structure came down right on schedule. Cosgrove said crews will cut up the pieces of the tower and sell the approximately 550 tons of steel.
