WATCH: Stephen Colbert skewers Donald Trump and his ‘gold-plated, diamond-encrusted campaign’

Stephen Colbert returned to the political arena on Tuesday with an announcement on his own: not only is he still hosting the Late Show this fall, but the late-night genre as a whole would benefit from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

“This’ll be the finest, most luxurious, gold-plated, diamond-encrusted campaign that will give hope to a weary nation,” Colbert began, donning a hairdo and accent not unlike Trump’s. “Until together, we reach that fine fall day when the new season of Celebrity Apprentice premieres.”

Colbert, who debuts on Sept. 8, also gave credit to his fellow hosts — sort of.

“These other hosts, you know, all the other guys, they love me, and I can say that because we’re close,” he explained. “But they’re clowns — and I can say that, because that’s literally how they make their money.”
