Daily Kos: TODAY is a BIG vote on net neutrality!!!

My Congressman Rep. Jeff Fortenberry is on the House Appropriations Committee. He actually did a conference call yesterday. They ran out of time before they got to me. I was able to leave a voice mail with my opinion.

Last week we learned of a sneak attack on net neutrality--amendments 628-630 in the 2016 Financial Services and General Government Bill which threaten to undermine the FCC and its newly-enacted rules that protect the open Internet from Big Cable.

The net neutrality rules went into effect on Friday, but these new amendments would stall the rules from taking effect, tie the hands of the FCC from making additional rules in the future, and would change the FCC rule making process--the same process most government agencies use. These amendments are retaliation for the net neutrality order and a gift to Big Cable lobbyists who still oppose the rules.

This week, those amendments will be included in a bill that is up for a vote in the House Appropriations Committee. If these riders remain in the funding bill after this stage, they would go to the full House for votes, making them much more difficult to remove.

We must remove these amendments sooner rather than later--the vote is tomorrow Wednesday, June 17.
