Decked out in child-sized purple scrubs and a spotless white coat, the newest doctor at Childrens Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha made her rounds Tuesday.
Payton Forsythe, a 5-year-old from Council Bluffs, spent the day meeting patients and playing doctor, with the help of Make-A-Wish Nebraska and Make-A-Wish Iowa.
This is pretty special, said Amy Forsythe, Paytons mother. Its a day to come here and be normal and not scared.
Payton was diagnosed in August with aplastic anemia, a bone marrow disease that causes a red blood cell deficiency. She underwent treatment in October and still makes weekly trips to the hospital for check-ups. Visits to Childrens piqued Paytons interest in being a doctor and inspired Tuesdays event.
