You'd think SC wouldn't want to fly a TN confederate flag..... being about heritage and all.

Seriously, since SC was the 1st state to secede, and the Civil War was a really big deal, I actually can see that they might what to show such an important part of their history. Not with shame or with honor... but just as history. But since they cannot even be bothered to fly an historically appropriate flag, and instead they fly what became a symbol of the KKK, I don't think the "heritage" they want to honor is the Civil War exactly. More like Jim Crow.

And that's not much.

It just seems like a big fat in-yer-face, to me. The Confederacy is DEAD (or - it's SUPPOSED to be dead). They LOST. They were DEFEATED. They SURRENDERED. Can't we call it OVER, FINALLY? WHY are we still hailing and saluting and cherishing that obscenity of a flag? WHY is THAT piece of filth actually allowed to hang on high, on display, in South Carolina? (Or ANYWHERE ELSE in public, for that matter!) All it does is validate and reinforce those horrid, racist, anti-social, awful past realities - and it won't let them stay buried in the past. It won't let them start to age out. It won't let that shit start to fade AWAY. It makes sure the very symbol of that wretched vile mindset stays current. Right In Yer FACE. It strikes me almost like a reminder of a very bizarro, utterly hideous "keep hope alive" type of thing. Otherwise why would they cling to it and keep it alive like that? It's not just that they can't get over it, it's that they actively WON'T get over it. They refuse.

I wish we could banish that flag once and for all. It's an abomination. Can't we take that damn thing down already??????
