Les Parents Concernés, a support group in Brussels started in 2013 for parents whose children left to fight in Syria, has since morphed into a larger movement of about 20 mothers and fathers who demand a voice in the fierce debate on how to fight extremism as well as request legal, financial and psychological support from the government to help their families cope with the trauma of their children’s departures. It is one of many such groups that have sprung up in Europe, North America and other regions targeted by recruiters of groups such as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.
