Apple receives Helen Keller Achievement Award for its VoiceOver accessibility tool

This evening at an event held by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), Apple received the Helen Keller Achievement Award for its breakthroughs in making technology accessible. Specifically, the AFB picked Apple for its efforts with VoiceOver, which reads out descriptions of what is happening on a device's display to users.

At the event in New York this evening, AFB's vice president, Paul Schroeder, called Apple game-changing and transformative, noting that VoiceOver has changed the world.

Ahead of the event today, Apple updated the App Store with a new section highlighting apps that support VoiceOver.

My wife and I participate in a runners group that runs with people with disabilities. The visually challenged members swear by Apple.
