A simple reminder that we can be a society that values life--the life of the dead, the life of the survivors, and yes, even the life of the man who caused this particular agony in the history of racism in this cuntry.

I am blown away by their love. Let us follow their courage.

I favor reform. It's better to turn them into us, than us into them.

It seems justice is people getting the fate they deserve.

What does a mass murdering monster deserve?

Attempting to decide what fate a person "deserves" is rather pointless. Is Cheney worse than Bush? Is a murderer worse than a rapist? Does it matter? This easily strays into the realm of torture, too, as we saw with the Boston bomber case.

We should be attempting to repair the damage done to society above all else. Rehabilitation and a return to the world as a better person is justice. The victim's healing is justice. If we cannot help a person (like a serial rapist, or a psychopath), then humane containment is all that we should do.

When we enact punishment, we do nothing but harm ourselves and lessen the chance of any real justice.

and face negative consequences for misfeasance?

Punishment and accountability are essential to deter wrongful conduct.

Not sure if that's where you were going with your line of thought, but State sanctioned execution is still murder regardless of the laws that support it, and makes us no better than the criminal. LWPOP is enough to satisfy justice IMO.
