(46,758 posts)Racism was always here. The reason why we didn't see it right away was because most people only deal with diversity in the work place. Title 8 and Civil Rights Laws have done a tremendous job of raising awareness about how we should work together without devolving to race issues.
But this new battle has a new front. It is in our communities. The resurrection of racism probably got new breath from all the privatization efforts. There are private schools which push right-wing memes, or homeschoolers who don't have any interaction with diversity outside of the dark skinned people they might meet in church, or communities which evolved from the white-flight.
The only way to fight back on a community front, is through civil litigation. And this isn't likely to happen since everything about the status quo is established to resist change.
