Judge Anthony ("What part of 'f*ck you' don't you understand?" Scalia is saying: "Listen, upholding the constitutionality of subsidies in the Affordable Care Act is like sanctioning the holocaust or supporting terrorism, giving aid and comfort to this nation's enemies, or bombing day-care centers! . . . Some say I am given to hyperbole, . . . but you tell me that in a couple of months when the hoards are storming the ramparts of civilization!"

(16,423 posts)When it was conservatives who coined "Obamacare" to tie Obama personally to it. (And, boy, do Republicans hate them some Obama...)

(92,395 posts)They did it as a slur, but ironically that will come back to haunt them, and actually seal Obama's legacy

(6,409 posts)I'm quoting from memory, so this might not be 100 percent accurate. "I'll tell you one thing, once it's working and people like it, the Republicans won't call it Obamacare anymore."

(9,148 posts)It was always, and still officially is, Affordable Care Act.
It was refferred to as Obamacare by the GOP since the word 'Obama' is a RW trigger word that ralleys their base to a frenzied hate.
Kinda backfired, I think.

(20,888 posts)butter is butter and not margarine. As soon as someone labels margarine butter then we go down the slippery slope to Rick Santorum marrying a dog. You don't want to see that. I don't want to see that. I do, like butter, though. I like it a lot.

(19,359 posts)(probably at the behest of Frank Luntz) and now having that term in currency as the favorability of the Act grows.
It's as though they would have called Social Security "Franklin Delano Roosevelt Social Security" or some such. The Republicans wanted to sink it, but know their worse fears are now realized: it's popular and popularly known by name as part of Obama's legacy. That's precisely what they didn't want, and due to their own intemperance, that's exactly what they got.
Now I'm waiting for Fox to talk about The Affordable Health Care Act, along with the "Democrat Party," "homicide bombers," and all the other travesties of language they have promoted.
