Abbott sent the Texas State Guard to monitor the so-called Jade Helm 15 military exercises in Central Texas earlier this year, after particularly vocal activists expressed fears that what was being billed as an exercise was actually something far more sinister.
During the training operation, it is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed, the governor wrote in his letter to the Guards commander at the time.

Asked whether federal military intervention is likely in certain circumstances, large numbers said yes. A majority said military intervention is very or somewhat likely to arrest political protesters, and 50 percent said it is likely that the feds would send the military to violate citizens property rights. Smaller but significant numbers said the military would likely be used to impose martial law (44 percent) and to confiscate firearms from citizens (43 percent).
You put federal government into it and peoples skepticism and their concern really rises, said Daron Shaw, co-director of the poll and a professor of government at UT-Austin. He noted that a substantial number of Democrats 31 percent on the martial law question believe federal military intervention is possible.

(29,322 posts)I think the Southern part -- the area that kinda makes a point south is a Democratic stronghold with parts of Houston & Austin. El Paso too.
I'm at-the-point where I'd probably prefer Arizona given to Mexico who would probably be more progressive that our legislature & governor. I really don't know how you do worse. The Southeast part of this state is a solid Democratic stronghold -- the land acquired through the Gadsen Purchase.

(29,322 posts)The propaganda is heavy and thick and they're somehow fooling people and I don't get it. Gotta be playing to their fears & prejudices but how can they not recognize the Republicans are so phony. It is plain as day.
VICE had a report on right wing militias. I'll try to keep this brief -- there are active, armed, doing military training exercises & unregulated border patrol and this was pretty consistent under the belief or impression (someone is selling it but a whole lot of people are buying it) that Obama is a Muslim Marxist Socialist that is coming for your guns first and foremost. After the guns are taken he's going to sneak our freedoms away from us and something about illegal immigrants being part of the plan (A 3% said to the Colorado RW radio jockey "Does anyone think its a strange coincidence the illegals are being put into red states?". This is where the unregulated border patrol comes and I fear what happens to their victims. For some reason ISIS is a big part of it as well as they commonly preach that either Obama is going to let ISIS into the country or unable to stop them so they are "doing the job the federal government is unwilling to do.
Do they ever have an awakening and how does it happen. I can't believe how extremely big lies come across as truth to them -- believe a lie and doubt the truth. It is crazy how far off they are believing this crazy nonsense.
The funny thing about it all is part of this Marxist coup was to fake a birth certificate which is an implication that they believe the election results are genuine. Wouldn't it make more sense to believe the vote was rigged but no doubt they probably they believe that with all this "voter fraud" rhetoric.

(2,674 posts)I live in Texas and I do not know one person who cares about Jade Helm. I would like to know where the numbers for this poll came from, there is no way it is accurate. It probably came from World Net Daily.
Further more, Gov. Abbott has called up the State Guard, not the National Guard. There is a huge difference. The State Guard is a bunch of old white men who like to play soldiers. The State Guard is the last line of defense if Texas is attacked and all the US soldiers and National Guard are killed, then the State Guard is supposed to come to our defense. In the meantime, they meet and drink lots of beer (or so I have been told).
I know there are a lot of fools in Texas and they seem to like to get their names in the paper a lot. But Texas is also populated with lots of smart, good people and I get sick and tired of posters on this board lumping Texans into one group that they call stupid or idiots.

(3,660 posts)The panglossean podsnapperists who pretend it's all about sharing data on GINI coefficients, the effects of Glass--Steagall and TPP conflict arbitration are utterly spectacularly blind to the fact that the majority of voters will never care about, understand, or react to such facts. That's why surveys on isolated policy positions that imply the US resembles Scandinavia are laughably irrelevant. All you have to do is say "tax and spend!" or "liberal@" and the moronic majority switch gears and forget about policy to react to soundbite demagoguery that tells them anybody left of Joe Lieberman has it in for white Christian male employed folks.
