The religious freedom meme has as much to do with discriminating against non believers as it does the LGBT community. It is about not having the Bible & 10 Commandments as the base for rule in this country. It is about not being able to refuse proven science, stopping cultural and even religious diversity, having the Bible and prayer in all the schools, censoring unChristian books and publications. And we all know it comes down to having a Christian like sharia in the US.
Even though the main focus is about the LGBT the real goal is having a religious based government and these folks will never give up on that idea. It is as ingrained as racism and the Confederate flag. Being non Christian or non believing is treason in their eyes. So we will continue this fight that is generational as much as anything.
We must remember that the early settlers viewed the Indians as pagans. And even though these early settlers were fleeing religious persecution. They were persecuting non believers of their era and even fellow community members who did not tow the religious line.
Expect the GOP presidential candidates to double down on the Christian persecution meme and Christian nation banter. They will act like THEIR country has been stolen by the heathens. And in the long run they could be just as dangerous as anything else to the country.

(15,805 posts)Your religious liberty is NOT assaulted in any way by todays court ruling on gay marriage unless your definition of religious liberty requires that you compel everyone else to do things your way, in which case you do have a problem.

It's not just religions that act that way, they're just the only ones claiming supernatural wisdom as the basis for it.
But when you mix religion and conservatism, yeah, it seems to happen an awful lot.
