Anybody else finding themselves tearing up all day?

It's been an almost overwhelming last few days. The names of the Charleston being recited at the funeral had me crying..Then...

I was with my 93 year old mother at the doctor's office...she'in hospice at an assisted living place. While waiting, I told her that the teachers she worked with decades ago would have been happy today...Chris couldn't marry his partner then, Paul, Hugh...I said that if they were alive, they would be stunned.

I told her healthcare was upheld, and the Confederate flag was starting to come down. Damned, I'm moist-eyed again!

She smiled, she knew...dementia doesn't stop all our humanity.

She's the mother of a transgender son -- wasn't home so I left a voicemail -- when I got to the part about the President's phone call to Obergefell, I choked up and started to cry. I've been leaking ever since.

Such joy, such joy.

That is very classy. Thank you for sharing that information.

Now I'm tearing up again.

As they concluded and he turned to take the call, he came back to her and said she might want to see this. It was the President on his phone, calling to congratulate him and wish him all the best.

What a scoop for her -- I'm sure they'll replay it sooner or later.

now for Johnson... but I think I will take a nap first.

The decision is likely one of the most consequential the court has made in a few years....

I'm an American in Europe, and I'm feeling very American today - proud, and missing my country.

The joy of the SCOTUS decision mixed with the profundity and humanity of President Obama's speech in Charleston has resulted in me needing to mop my face dry several times!

but I have been walking around with the biggest grin on my face all day (not generally a smiler, either). It makes me happy to know that, should my sister decided to get married, it won't have to be in another state and it will be recognized here. Yeah, there are going to be hold outs here in Texas, but they will not last. K&R
