US military just made a smart decision re: the ruling

US Military on SCOTUS same-sex marriage ruling: 'Today's Supreme Court decision will now permit same sex weddings in military chapels in all 50 states.
Any military chaplain or clergy can refuse to perform a same sex marriage 'if it is not in line with the tenets of their faith.' - @NBCNews

Thus neatly removing the opportunity for the fundies to paint themselves as martyrs and victims of a
coercive godless Gov't.
Dire threats of same are already in full flower over at Freeperville.

in that fashion any more, and good thing.

Military chaplains have ALWAYS been allowed to refuse to marry two people, so that's not a change. Chapels are "multi-use" facilities, and a person can reserve the chapel without having to have a priest/minister/rabbi/imam to "go with."

There will be enough military chaplains to go around at larger bases--there will always be one, I think, who will be sufficiently doctrinally liberated to be able to manage the task, or people can do what is becoming increasingly popular nowadays--get a parent, friend, other loved one to get a "license for a day," and have them act as the officiant.

I've been to five weddings very recently where the best man was a brother, parent or friend.

Like I mentioned in another thread, the religions are clubs and members must follow the rules. That's why churches will not be forced to marry people. It's a fake controversy.

Freeper types are outraged they have to live in a world with gay people.
