THANK YOU to all the LGBTQIA Activists who brought us to this moment

You have struggled so long and so hard to show that equality and love are ALWAYS right. You are the ones who have won this victory in honor of those who have suffered as well as for the future. You have made the United States a better, more loving place and I thank you. You deserve to take a massive victory lap. All respect to you and I share your joy and celebration!

Today is a good day. I can say that today, this country changed the weave of its fabric for the better. It is a historical day and I thank all those who fought so hard and so long.

Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in 2003 who were in the majority in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health.

The Vermont legislature had been the first to put civil unions into effect. But, Massachusetts had no such law.

The Justices of Massachusetts said equal marriage was a Constitutional matter. And they based their decision on the Massachusetts Constitution, so the Supremes could not overturn it.

The Massachusetts Justices did give state legislators the option to do something about it within a certain time, but, oops, legislators couldn't agree on exactly what to do fast enough. So, time ran out and the decision of the Justices became permanent.

Their decision, based on a legal fight launched by LGBTQ activists, was a watershed.

The wiki on the case lists the Justices who were in the majority, as well as those who dissented.

Thank you to them as well.

They turned the tide of public opinion by showing that EQUALITY is RIGHT. The politicians followed. They deserve credit for the struggle. And now, they have won!!

No Massachusetts court fight = no Massachusetts court decision.

However, the Justices could have decided another way, including by basing their decision on the US Constitution, which, in 2003, the Supremes might have overturned. I think they deserve some credit for their decision.
