Politico:Gone is the idea of an expansive, state-by-state primary election strategy. Iowa, despite the early visits and Christies cultivation of a relationship with Gov. Terry Branstad, is probably out the window, too. And forget about the prospect of a cash-flush campaign: The New Jersey governor is now expected to raise just a fraction of what his top opponents will rake in.
In a sign of how far Christies fortunes have fallen, he spent part of this weekend personally calling around to home state Republican legislators to nail down their support for his now long-shot presidential bid.
...snip...
The hope, according to advisers who spent the weekend in a flurry of last-minute planning meetings is that by exceeding expectations in debates and town hall events, and by performing well in a few select primary contests, he can re-establish himself as a top-tier candidate.

(6,409 posts)I guess most of us question why any of the present GOP candidates would consider running. The only possible exception is Jeb Bush, not because he's fit to be president, but simply because people might vote for him. Christie is tied to so much scandal and corruption, nobody outside NJ would consider voting for him. "What? You want the entire country run like NJ? Faggeddaboudid!"

(20,917 posts)His "I suck, but I'm not Rick Santorum -Jeb Bush religious crazy" has a chance. Like Scott Walker he is willing to scrape in the mud to win this thing. I give him a 5% chance.

He has the kind of money that he can throw behind a front runner or even buy himself a VP slot. Why do you think he's been so slow to dispense nearly a billion dollars in federal hurricane Sandy money? Because he's accruing interest on it -- interest that no one will miss!
