Jurors find 'Big Tony' Moscatiello guilty in murder of Miami Subs founder

Anthony "Big Tony" Moscatiello was nowhere near Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 6, 2001, the night Miami Subs founder Gus Boulis was gunned down in an execution-style murder.

But Moscatiello gave the order to have Boulis killed, a Broward jury determined Wednesday, and now he's looking at spending the rest of his life in prison.

Prosecutors said Moscatiello ordered the hit on Boulis to keep him from gaining control over the SunCruz Casino ship fleet, which he was ordered to sell by the federal government in late 2000. The buyers later admitted that their plan to purchase SunCruz was fraudulent. By the end of 2000, Boulis became suspicious that he would never be paid the $145 million he was promised, and his relationship with one of the buyers, Adam Kidan, soured to the point where each accused the other of resorting to violence.

Kidan testified that he hired Moscatiello, a reputed member of the Gambino crime family, for mob protection. But Moscatiello was also a wine distributor, and Kidan said he concealed his protection money by having Moscatiello provide wine for the casino ships.
