http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/01/opinion/frank-bruni-the-good-among-the-greed.html?ref=todayspaper&_r=0Come on. Deep inside you know it: The world should be ruled by corporations.
Why?
Because they took a stand against the confederate flag. Ain't that great? And not only that: Corporations bullied democratically elected officials into denouncing the confederate flag. What more do you want?
When religious freedom laws reared their heads in Indiana, Arkansas and Arizona, it was corporations who bullied democratically elected officials into doing the right thing.
And if it went by big corporations, immigration reform would already be a done deal instead of neverending political debates between democratically elected officials who can't agree on what should or shouldn't be done. Don't you hate it when that happens?
Now, to quote Frank Bruni:
"Are these companies acting in their own interests? Absolutely. Theyre trying to make sure that laws and local customs dont prevent them from attracting and retaining the best work force. Theyre burnishing their brands in a manner that they hope will endear them to customers."
You see. Corporations are doing this out of the kindness they feel in their hearts for making profit! And this desire for profit, in the form of avoiding bad press and boycotts, has recently led to decisions that are in line with public sentiment. You see? Corporations would totally be better rulers than squabbling politicians.
Again, to quote Frank Bruni:
"Corporations arent paralyzed by partisan bickering. Theyre not hostage to a few big donors, a few loud interest groups or some unyielding ideology."
Corporations get shit done! They cannot be corrupted because they are too rich to be bribed! And they have no partisan ideology! (Except for this profit-thing but that doesn't count because it's a good ideology because it's profit shut up.)
Corporations are the true democratic institutions of society because they don't exclusively care about the votes of the few people of a district! They care about the money of all the voters in the whole country!
To quote the lobbyist Bradley Tusk:
Ironically, a lot of corporations have to be far more democratic than democratically elected officials.
And back to Frank Bruni's closing words:
"Back in 2011, Schultz used his corporate pulpit to bemoan congressional sclerosis and try to exert more cooperation among Democrats and Republicans on debt reduction; he succeeded in getting more than 100 other chief executives to pledge to withhold political donations until Congress made bipartisan progress.
Between 2010 and 2014, Unilever increased the fraction of materials it got from farms with sustainable practices to roughly one-half from less than one-fifth. And the software company Infor participated in a multimillion-dollar program to provide free tickets to Selma for American schoolchildren.
The list goes on. And while it doesnt erase the damage that corporations wreak on the environment or their exploitation of workers paid too little, it does force you to admit that corporations arent always the bad guys. Sometimes the bottom line matches the common good, and theyre the agents of whats practical, wise and even right."
P.S.: "Government sucks, corporations rule! Woohoo!!!"

(17,997 posts)1. and notice how much they did about the RFRAs?
I mean after all of the posturing and bitching, they really came through with their actions! I mean just look at Emily's List, Walmart, Apple, they moved, uhm, let's see, nothing!
Way to go corporatocracy!

(52,589 posts)2. I'm glad you're in love with them Mr. Bruni.
They seem to have your mind and soul as well as your laws. Corporations are artificial entities. That is what they should remain as. A legal document to create an enterprise. Enjoy having your rights subjugated to that rather than the way it started, they were subjugated to our rights.

cheerfully signs everything.
